Linden Hall’s Admission Philosophy

Linden Hall, founded in 1746, is the oldest girls’ college-preparatory school in the United States. Our mission is to offer our students the finest academic and living experiences in the nation.

As the nation’s top college preparatory school for girls, admission to Linden Hall is selective. The academic level of our students range from above average to outstanding, and students are admitted without regard to nationality, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic class, or any other discriminating factor, except academic achievement. Such an admission policy has produced an extremely talented and diverse student body at Linden Hall, and we believe will best prepare our graduates for the highly competitive realities of both college admission and employment in the 21st century.

Who is admitted to Linden Hall?
Because Linden Hall receives more applications from prospective students than there are spaces available, the Admission Committee is unfortunately not able to accommodate all applicants who are qualified. Applicants who are generally successful in the enrollment process are:
  • Self-motivated students with A and/or B grades at their current school and test scores that are consistent with grades
  • Successful and committed to their extracurricular activities in both athletics and arts
  • Involved in the community through volunteer service
  • Demonstrated leaders; an interest in moving beyond what is comfortable or easy for their own growth and that of others.

International Applicants
International applicants should note that Linden Hall takes many steps to ensure that our international students achieve an exceptional level of English mastery. Linden Hall does not offer Basic Level ESL; therefore, applicants must demonstrate an acceptable level of English proficiency before they are admitted to our school. We admit international students to the Intermediate or Advanced ESL classes and expect them to be in all regular courses for their senior year. Because all of our international students have at least a basic competency in English when they enter, we at Linden Hall employ an “English only” policy. Students are expected to speak English at all times on campus.

At Linden Hall, we are extremely proud of the incredible diversity of our community and are committed to programs of excellence that will best prepare our graduates, both domestic and international, to assume the leadership positions of their generation.
