Thirty-four teams of middle school math competitors went to battle on the final Saturday in February to see just who is the best of the best in Central Pennsylvania mathematics.  Competition newcomer Linden Hall made it clear that they were there to win and took first place in the day-long competition.  Team members Sarah Kincaid, Jillian Silbert, Julia Song, and Justine Yun scored 35.50 out of 46 points, making Coach Linda Gillingham proud and qualifying them for the State finals to be held in Harrisburg in late March.

To make the competition even more exciting, 8th grader Jillian Silbert took first place out of the field of 201 competitors!  Justine Yun brought home impressive results with her 16th position in the large group of individual competitors.

MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. To secure America's global competitiveness, MATHCOUNTS inspires excellence, confidence and curiosity in U.S. middle school students through fun and challenging math programs. The MATHCOUNTS Competition Program provides the extra incentive and the perfect atmosphere for students to push themselves to achieve more in mathematics.  Consisting of fun and creative problems, the MATHCOUNTS competitions have written and oral rounds, as well as individual and team components.  Though challenging and non-routine, the competition problems focus on the 6th through 8th grade standards of the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics.
